The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 2 (Regional Director: Seo-Yeon Lee) participated in the 69th UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held at the UN Headquarters in New York and met with Minister of State for Women's Affairs of Libya, Houria Al-Tarmal, at the East Lounge on the 17th to discuss strategic cooperation for women-led peacebuilding and the realization of sustainable peace.

The meeting focused on Libya’s peace activities, supporting and urging for the legislation of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), women’s peace education and network formation, and plans to host the International Loving Peace Art Competition in Libya.

IWPG Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon stated, “The Republic of Korea has overcome the pain of war and achieved development through education and practice. Libyan women should also actively participate in peace education.” She particularly emphasized that “the International Loving Peace Art Competition, which is currently being held for children worldwide, should also take place in Libya.”

Minister Houria Al-Tarmal expressed her deep appreciation, saying, “I am deeply moved by IWPG’s genuine efforts and strong commitment to peace. I will actively support Libyan women in becoming key actors in peace.” She further emphasized, “We will encourage women's participation in peace education to strengthen their political capacity and empower them with decision-making authority for peace realization.”

Additionally, she stated, “In order to establish an IWPG branch in Libya, we must go through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ procedures, but I will actively support ensuring this process is expedited.”

Building on this meeting, IWPG plans to strengthen its solidarity with women leaders worldwide. It hopes to spread the message of peace throughout the international community and encourage more leaders to participate in peace activities.

Meanwhile, IWPG is a globally recognized women’s NGO registered with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Department of Global Communications (DGC). It operates 115 branches in 122 countries and collaborates with 808 partner organizations in 68 countries. With the vision of “Realizing Sustainable World Peace,” IWPG continuously strives to expand global solidarity, spread a culture of peace, provide women’s peace education, and support and urge for the legislation of the DPCW.
