- Expansion of Women's Peace Education… Promotion of Sustainable Peace Projects
The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), Global Region 2 (Regional Director SeoYeon Lee), participated in the 69th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held at the UN Headquarters in New York, where they met with the Colombian Ambassador to discuss peace cooperation initiatives.
On March 20, SeoYeon Lee, Regional Director of Global Region 2, visited the Colombian Embassy and held an in-depth discussion with Leonor Zalabata Torres, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations in New York, on ways to expand the Women's Peace Education in Colombia and promote sustainable peace projects.
Regional director Lee stated, “Numerous members are actively engaged in the Bogotá and Cali regions, and we are currently providing the Women’s Peace Education to around 1,000 individuals,” adding, “Especially in South America, women are passionate about peace and show a high level of participation.”
Ambassador Torres requested, “I hope that Colombian indigenous people will be given the opportunity to participate as speakers at the Valledupar peace event hosted by IWPG.” She also stated, “Peace is a shared value that everyone must pursue together through connection. We must live for peace,” and added, “Please visit the indigenous community in Elba, near Valledupar, and support them in breaking the cycle of violence.”
Following this meeting, IWPG plans to strengthen its solidarity with the Colombian community and further expand its efforts in building sustainable peace.
Meanwhile, IWPG is a global women's NGO registered with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Department of Global Communications (DGC). It has 115 branches in 122 countries and actively works in partnership with 808 organizations across 68 countries. With the vision of “achieving sustainable world peace,” IWPG actively promotes global solidarity, spreads a culture of peace through the International Loving Peace Art Competition, conducts Women’s Peace Education, and supports and advocates for the legislation of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).
