Encouraging Jordanian women to participate in peace activities
The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 2 (Global Director SeoYeon Lee) participated in the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held at the UN Headquarters in New York. On the 10th, IWPG signed an MOU for the realization of peace projects with the Equality Organization for Training and Human Rights (Representative Hiba Issa Odeh Haddadeen) at the Wyndham Hotel.
The Equality Organization for Training and Human Rights is an organization that establishes partnerships to advance women's rights and achieve a just and equal society. Through advocacy, awareness-raising, and capacity building, the organization creates sustainable positive change.
The two organizations agreed to cooperate in peace activities and discussed practical and concrete plans, including: ▲IWPG peace events ▲Cooperation in supporting and advocating for the enactment of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) into law ▲Women’s peace education and network formation ▲Support for Jordanian women to join IWPG as new members.
Representative Hiba Issa Odeh Haddadeen stated, “Through cooperation with IWPG, we will share experiences and knowledge in the fields of women’s rights and peace. I find it very meaningful that we can move forward together toward our common goal of peace.”
Regional Director Seo-Yeon Lee said, “Through this agreement, we are pleased to take a step closer to building sustainable peace while spreading the value of peace together with the women of Jordan.”
Meanwhile, IWPG is a global women’s NGO registered with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC). It has 115 branches in 122 countries and 808 partner organizations in 68 countries. With the vision of ‘realizing sustainable world peace,’ IWPG actively works to spread the solidarity needed in the world, promote a culture of peace, provide women’s peace education, and support and advocate for the enactment of the DPCW into law.
